Contextual Influences on Saliency

چکیده

This article describes a model for including scene/context priors in attention guidance. In the proposed scheme, visual context information can be available early in the visual processing chain, in order to modulate the saliency of image regions and to provide an efficient short cut for object detection and recognition. The scene is represented by means of a low-dimensional global description obtained from lowlevel features. The global scene features are then used to predict the probability of presence of the target object in the scene, and its location and scale, before exploring the image. Scene information can then be used to modulate the saliency of image regions early during the visual processing in order to provide an efficient short cut for object detection and recognition. 1 . 1 This work was sponsored in part by the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation as part of the NTT/MIT Collaboration Agreement

Contextual guidance of eye movements and attention in real-world scenes: The role of global features on object search

Behavioral experiments have shown that the human visual system makes extensive use of contextual information for facilitating object search in natural scenes. However, the question of how to formally model contextual influences is still open. Based on a Bayesian framework, we present an original approach of attentional guidance by global scene context. Two parallel pathways comprise the model; ...

Contextual guidance of eye movements and attention in real-world scenes: the role of global features in object search.

A Deep Spatial Contextual Long-term Recurrent Convolutional Network for Saliency Detection

—Traditional saliency models usually adopt hand-crafted image features and human-designed mechanisms to calculate local or global contrast. In this paper, we propose a novel computational saliency model, i.e., deep spatial contextual long-term recurrent convolutional network (DSCLRCN) to predict where people looks in natural scenes. DSCLRCN first automatically learns saliency related local feat...

Contour Saliency in Primary Visual Cortex

Contour integration is an important intermediate stage of object recognition, in which line segments belonging to an object boundary are perceptually linked and segmented from complex backgrounds. Contextual influences observed in primary visual cortex (V1) suggest the involvement of V1 in contour integration. Here, we provide direct evidence that, in monkeys performing a contour detection task...

Determining Patch Saliency Using Low-Level Context

The increased use of context for high level reasoning has been popular in recent works to increase recognition accuracy. In this paper, we consider an orthogonal application of context. We explore the use of context to determine which low-level appearance cues in an image are salient or representative of an image’s contents. Existing classes of low-level saliency measures for image patches incl...
